A TEENAGE driver who led police on a high speed chase through Bulahdelah on Saturday was stopped with road spikes, and will face court on dangerous driving charges.
The 18-year-old man was detected speeding around 8.30pm on the Pacific Highway just south of Bulahdelah, and police signalled him to pull his maroon Holden Commodore over.
The driver sped up to evade his pursuers, and police abandoned the chase after he allegedly reached 190kmh and crossed to the wrong side of the road.
A short time later, highway patrol officers near Coolongolook area spotted the car and took up the chase.
Police deployed road spikes in two places, which slashed the Commodore’s tyres and forced it to stop just north of Bulahdelah.
The driver and his passenger ran away from the highway but were caught in roadside bushland and arrested.
The pair was taken to Bulahdelah Police Station and questioned.
The driver was taken to Taree Police Station and charged with dangerous driving and driving while disqualified, and refused bail to appear in Taree Local Court on Monday.
The Commodore was seized by police, but the passenger was released without charge.
